“Bamboo Trees at Sunset”

Acrylic on Cotton Canvas 48 x 30

Bamboo trees are reminiscent of my childhood days in Sri Lanka when I recall living in a place called Ratnapura. The spacious landscape sloped down to the rice fields, and at the edge where the land and rice fields met, there was the grove of bamboo trees swaying to the cool breeze from the vast fields, basking in the evening sun, with tiny rays of sun peeping through them.

“Local Fruit Trees of Sri Lanka”

Acrylic on Cotton Canvas 72 x 48

How my visual garden came to be, was my recollection of all the tropical fruit trees around the house where we lived. They were full of fruits, year-round. Our snacks were nothing sophisticated, just the ripe fruit picked off these trees.

Simply to showcase them all, I painted these fruit trees clustered together on one large canvas.

“King Coconuts (Thambili) from Sri Lanka”

Acrylic on Cotton Canvas 36 x 31

Bright orange color coconuts with sweet tasting coconut water are an excellent thirst quencher and a natural drink on a hot summer day. Not only is this coconut water drunk at Sri Lankan homes, but it is also proudly served to any visitors. This painting was completed in an abstract form to highlight the brilliant orange hues of the coconuts.

“A Coconut Grove”

Acrylic on Cotton Canvas 9 x 12

A simple sketch of how it looked like on the day we had the coconuts plucked from our trees at home in Sri Lanka and had them rounded up for collection. How I came to love all aspects of this special day, watching the men expertly climbing the trees, quickly cutting out the bunches of coconut, gathering them, and husking them onto piles.

“Money Plant in the Rain in Abstract”

Another recollection in abstract form. As a child, I sat by the windowsill and watched the money plant leaves drenching in the monsoon rains, and the water sliding down like silvery tear drops.

It was fascinating!

“Animals Familiar to Sri Lanka”

Acrylic on Cotton Canvas 72 x 48

I always wondered how it was if all the animals came together! Here is that thought of utopia. Animals, big and small typical to Sri Lanka, living in harmony, via the tip of a paintbrush onto my canvas.

“Elephants at the Orphanage - In the Eyes of a Child”

Acrylic 0n Cotton Canvas 48 x 48

By the elephant orphanage, there is a river where the elephants go in a line to bathe. A scene of mothers, fathers and the baby elephants playing, spraying water at each other or just laying down, is a delightful sight for a little child’s eyes.

A canvas with minimalistic colors, a daily wonder perfect for a child’s room.

“Butterflies Familiar to Sri Lanka”

They are simple little creatures flying about peacefully with almost hand-picked patterns and colors, but very real! Butterflies like these are native to Sri Lanka and are put together on a canvas to remind you of their simplicity and serene beauty.
